About the role

As part of the Technical Professionals team currently comprising of 18 technicians across the department you will be supporting the structures group comprising of 11 academics and 30 PhD students across two laboratories one at Here East and one at Bloomsbury.

  • Provide practical and technical support to the work of academics, researchers, students and external contractors activities in the Structures laboratories and flexible project spaces
  • Provide support in the design and delivery of lab equipment, devices and test specimens with reference to structural experimentation
  • Prepare various materials to produce specimens in metals, timber, concrete, masonry and fibre reinforced polymers, ranging from large size specimens to small intricate components, for testing on a range of specialist rigs.
  • Set up and operate universal testing machines for compression, tensile and cyclic testing of materials
  • Be responsible for procurement and ordering, organisation and delivery of supplies
  • Be responsible for organisation of the work space in compliance with health and safety requirements, including correct and safe disposal of waste materials

About you

HND/HNC or equivalent experience in a relevant engineering discipline

Experience of providing practical technical support for the manufacture, assembly and testing of structural systems

Knowledge and application of statutory regulations for health and safety in a laboratory and engineering workshop setting

Knowledge of a range of materials, their properties and uses, for example: metals, timber, concrete, masonry and fibre reinforced polymers

Experience using UTM and environmental testing equipment
