About Us

We’re inviting applications for a Lecturer to join our team in the Centre for Global Mental Health (CGMH), to lead the delivery of the Global Mental Health programme and to develop their academic career. The Centre is part of the Health Service and Population Research Department within the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), King’s College London.

About the role

We invite applications from high-potential individuals with a promising early career. The ideal candidate will have a good publication record, successful grant applications, and a commitment to excellence in teaching and administration. The Lecturer in Global Mental Health will be programme and academic lead for the MSc in Global Mental Health, responsible for delivering consistently excellent educational provision and student experience. As an academic they will be expected to apply for grants and manage their research activities, including the line management of researchers. They will be expected to write and contribute to publications in high impact scientific journals and to disseminate research and generate impact.

This is a full time contract (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  • PhD qualified in subject area related to global mental health 
  • Knowledge and understanding of the UK higher education system 
  • Experience of delivering excellent teaching and assessment for postgraduate and/or undergraduate students, in person and/or online 
  • An established record of securing grant applications and a clear plan for future research career 
  • Evidence of high-quality published research 
  • Experience of supervising dissertations for undergraduate, Masters’ and/or doctoral students  
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and build national and international research collaborations 
  • Direct experience of conducting research in low or middle-income countries 
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills, to convey conceptual and complex ideas and information, alongside good organisational and administrative skills.

Desirable criteria

  • Higher Education accreditation/qualification (e.g., Advance HE Fellowship or PGCAPHE).  
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development in education practice  
  • Experience of providing pastoral support and guidance to postgraduate and undergraduate students. 
  • Ability to contribute to the Department’s teaching strategy.
