About the role
We are seeking a talented researcher to work on an interdisciplinary project funded by the MS Society. The aim of the project is to determine the clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of the iStep-MS intervention for reducing fatigue in people with multiple sclerosis. iStep-MS involves the delivery of behaviour change techniques supported by consultations with healthcare professionals, an intervention handbook and wearable technology (Smartwatch) to support increases in physical activity and reductions in sedentary behaviour. A randomised controlled trial will be undertaken, in partnership with primary and secondary care NHS Trusts and a neurological therapy centre, to test the iStep-MS intervention when delivered across the healthcare pathway for people with multiple sclerosis.

The postholder will support recruitment of participants, lead the collection and analysis of health and behavioural data (including via interviews, focus groups and questionnaires), and support the collection and analysis of quantitative data (questionnaire and physical activity accelerometery data). This will be in addition to working closely with healthcare organisations to support their delivery of the intervention.

The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary research team, led by Dr Daniel Bailey, with expertise in the development and evaluation of physical activity and sedentary behaviour interventions for the management of long-term health conditions. The candidate will join the Centre for Physical Activity in Health and Disease and work alongside a diverse community of researchers, including members of the project team with expertise in qualitative research methods, behaviour change, digital health technologies and physiotherapy.
