The role

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a multi-disciplinary and multi-partner project focused on Transforming Housing and Homes for Future Generations and collaborate with lead researchers in the GW4 Alliance that consists of the most research-intensive and innovative universities in the UK: Bath, Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter. The candidate will be based at the University of Bristol, working on skills and training activities for energy retrofitting and transforming homes with bio-based and non-extractive materials. The activities will involve engaging with professional bodies and non-profit organisations for the development of technical guidance and education materials aimed at upskilling students and construction professionals.

The role is at 0.2FTE (1 day per week) for 8 months. Start date February 2025. 

What will you be doing?

The researcher will: 

  • Work closely with architects, engineers, social scientists, sustainability experts and a wide range of stakeholders ranging from community groups to local authorities in co-designing transferable solutions for retrofitting and remodelling existing social housing.  
  • Organise workshops and webinars regarding energy retrofit skills from School to Further and Higher Education.
  • Work with local schools and colleges to develop educational materials on retrofitting/remodelling homes. 

You should apply if

Applications are invited from candidates with a MSc or PhD awarded in Education and Social Sciences but also in Engineering and Architecture or be working towards one.  Prior experience with STEM activities, sustainability, bio based materials and design would be an advantage but not essential. Applicants should have excellent written and oral communication, and presentation and organisation skills.
