The role
Applications are invited for the role of Postdoctoral Researcher in the Centre for Device Thermography and Reliability (CDTR), to contribute to the understanding of thermal properties of ceramic materials. This role is focused on research to characterise the thermal properties of a range of advanced ceramics materials including SiC-based composites, porous ceramics and Ga2O3 materials before and after irradiation damage. Prior expertise in irradiation damage, optical laser-based systems as well as ceramic materials is therefore of benefit for this position.
What will you be doing?
During this project, you implement existing optical laser-based systems to study a range of ceramic materials. You will have the opportunity to study unique materials and structures, and to access the extensive materials characterisation equipment available in Bristol, from advanced thermal to microstructural analysis tools, and simulation methods (COMSOL, ANSYS); you have the opportunity collaborate within our 30-member team as well as with our industrial partners. This position benefits from the Chair in Emerging Technologies awarded to Professor Kuball, Director of the CDTR, by the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng) in 2020, and various UK-funded programmes the CDTR is partnered in.
You should apply if
Applicants should have postgraduate (PhD) experience in Physics, Materials Science or Engineering or be working towards one with a good publication record. The position requires extensive expertise in optical characterization systems and measurement techniques, a good understanding of thermal transport and irradiation damage in ceramic materials. A willingness to work together with, and co-supervise, PhD students of the CDTR will be necessary.
