About the role…  

This role focuses on the causes of genetic eye disease to improve diagnostics and develop new treatments for patients. The lab focuses on the pathophysiology of genetic eye disease by exploring the molecular and cellular basis of the disease using multi-omic approaches in model systems.  

The work is interdisciplinary, crossing the boundaries between science and clinical practise, and working in collaboration with University College London and Moorfields Eye Hospital.  The work has a direct impact on patient outcomes and contributes to the process to help to preserve sight. As a result, patients are keen to engage, and support the work we do.  

What you will be doing…  

As a LRS at the Crick, you will:  

  • Generate molecular biology tools to investigate retina development, including preparation on stock solutions and reagents.  
  • Undertake stem cell culture, create isogenic cell lines, differentiate retinal organoids and use of sterile techniques.  
  • Providing experimental or technical support to lab members.   
  • Providing technical expertise/ input for the development, refinement and troubleshooting of relevant methodologies.   

About you…   

  • Good knowledge and previous experience of working in a relevant field of biological research, particularly visual neuroscience or developmental biology.  
  • Previous experience of working in a laboratory environment and good understanding of health and safety regulations.  
  • Have previous experience in molecular and cell biology techniques including qPCR, cloning, western blots and microscopy.  
  • BSc in a relevant discipline, or equivalent experience.
