The Opportunity:

This is an exciting opportunity for a full-time Clinical Research Fellow to support academic-led clinical research at the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic, a unique world-class care-research partnership between the University of Edinburgh and NHS Lothian.

The post-holder will be part of a multi-disciplinary team and be responsible for the delivery of direct and indirect care and associated data collection for concurrent research studies undertaken in the Clinic.

This one-year opportunity is open to motivated individuals who are qualified in medicine and have completed Foundation Training, or are engaged in specialty training in any field related to clinical neurosciences.

The post provides considerable opportunities for training including mentorship and exposure to observational and interventional clinical research studies, disease-specific registries, and specialist NHS clinics in cognitive neurology, motor neuron disease (MND), multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease and neuropsychiatry.  There will be ample opportunity to gain insight and informal training in aspects of novel trial methodology, trial assessment, research governance, ethics applications, clinical epidemiology and specialist diagnostic modalities including neuroimaging.

This post has proven to be a highly effective springboard for higher research degrees and clinical training positions in neuroscience-related specialties. Post-holders will also be offered opportunities to undertake training in a range of transferable skills, including, for example, leadership, management, audit, quality improvement and public engagement.  Fellows are expected to lead on personal projects, giving presentations at professional meetings and co-writing scientific publications.

This post is full-time (40 hours per week), fixed term (12 months) and is expected to start in August 2025.

As part of this application you will be required to submit a one page document outlining how you meet the essential criteria, as outlined on the job description.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Clinically qualified with MBBS (or equivalent) with full GMC registration.
  • Proven analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills, and the ability to communicate appropriately, and with discretion, with patients, carers, healthy volunteers and colleagues
  • Ability to organise and prioritise own work with minimal supervision, sometimes to tight deadlines

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor Suvankar Pal (Suvankar.Pal@ed.ac.uk) and Professor David Hunt (David.Hunt@ed.ac.uk).
