The role

The School of Geographical Sciences is seeking to appoint an exceptionally motivated individual to join an interdisciplinary and dynamic research and teaching cohort in Global Development and Environment at the University of Bristol. The successful applicant will join the States, Economies & Societies (SES) research group, complementing and expanding our capacity for research and teaching in political and economic geography, governance and public policy, and sustainable development with an emphasis on the Global South. We are seeking candidates whose discipline-leading research engages with global developmental challenges, national/international/supranational governance processes and their links to grounded local responses and experiences in specific contexts. Practical experience working across scales, including nationally or with multilateral, bilateral or non-governmental organisations is desirable.

What will you be doing?

  • Developing research and impact initiatives that help to build the School’s capacity for research in developmental and environmental topics.
  • Contributing to the research profile of the School’s States, Economies & Societies research group, and other groups in the School, Faculty and University as appropriate.
  • Contributing to teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, in particular being centrally involved in teaching on leading our MSc programme in Global Development and Environment.
  • Designing and convening new teaching resources and units for the MSc Global Development and Environment.
  • Disseminating research findings through publications, conferences, meetings and other formats to generate impact and engagement within and beyond academia.
  • Taking on administrative and leadership roles as appropriate to career-stage
