The School of Education is looking to hire an Assistant Professor in Irish Language Education. The development of Irish-medium and Gaeltacht Education, and of Irish-language education more broadly, is an overt policy priority in Ireland. The sector is engaging with challenges with respect to the changing sociolinguistic context of the Gaeltacht, changing demographics nationally, the supply and retention of teachers, and the provision of opportunities to develop educators’ practice as specialists in their field. These issues are a growing focus of research, teaching and practice in Trinity’s School of Education.

The successful candidate will be a specialist in immersion and Gaeltacht education and/or applied linguistics and will have an interest in advocating for the Irish language within Irish education and society. They will be fully conversant with the Council of Europe Framework of Reference for Languages and European and national policy in relation to the Irish language.

The successful candidate will teach and supervise on the Irish language education programmes in the School, to include the supervision of postgraduate student research. The post-holder will undertake research, knowledge generation and dissemination in the field of Irish language education.

Post Title: Assistant Professor in Irish Language Education

Post status: 2.5 Year, Specific Purpose Contract

Salary: Appointment will be made on the Lecturer Salary Scale (109BN) commensurate with qualifications / experience and in line with Public Sector Pay Policy [€41,500 to €99,550 per annum] http://www.tcd.ie/hr/assets/pdf/monthly_academic.pdf.
