The School welcomes applications from candidates with demonstrated excellence in research, teaching and service for the position of Associate Professor in Applied Intercultural Communication and Francophone African Studies.

Expertise will be required in Applied Intercultural Communication and Francophone African cultures, histories and societies and may include expertise, in relation to Francophone Studies, in one of more of the following: literature, geopolitics, history, film and visual culture. Applications from candidates with a specialization in one of more of the following will be particularly welcome: history of colonialism and decolonization; postcolonial/decolonial theory, EU-Africa relations. Applicants with one or more regional specializations including (but not limited to) any of the following are also particularly welcome: Franco-North African and West African relations, and Europe and Francophone Sub-Saharan Africa.

The successful candidate will have a doctorate in hand at the time of application. They must be willing and able to contribute to all aspects of the postgraduate curriculum in Intercultural Communication, and be willing and able to design new modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in their subject of expertise for undergraduate students of all levels, as well as introductory and intermediate modules across a range of areas involving Francophones Studies, when required. They must be willing and able to coordinate the MPhil in Applied intercultural Communication and the postgraduate stackable programme, which is a core activity of the Centre for Global Intercultural Communications, which was founded with funding provided by the Government of Ireland’s Human Capital Initiative (HCI), and it is where the post will be mostly based. It is envisaged that it will be an 80/20 split between Intercultural Communications (80% of this post) and French (20%). They will be willing to contribute to developments of new programmes of study across the curriculum, noting that Intercultural Communications can serve as an umbrella programme across a wide and growing range of activities in the School.

They will join a team of academic and professional colleagues at the Centre and will have responsibility for the development and delivery of a suite of short courses for the broader public on Francophone Africa, and a range of modules for a part-time certificate, diploma and Masters that will accommodate the needs of those seeking to update their education and to upskill and re-skill, including entrepreneurs seeking to do business with Francophone African countries. The successful candidate will also be a member of the Department of French (20%) and will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision in the School.

Post status: Permanent

Salary: This appointment will be made on the Associate Professor Salary Scale (€89,364 -€115-398 per annum) at a point in line with current Government pay policy. monthly/weekly payscales. (tcd.ie)
