Applicants are invited for the position of Technician within the world-renowned Optical Fibre Fabrication Group at the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC), Southampton University. Your main role will be to assist with the day-to-day running of the silica fibre fabrication facilities both in the cleanroom and laboratories, resolving technical issues related to the equipment to meet the needs of postgraduate students, research staff, visitors, and customers, while also providing advice as required.
To be successful, you will have a skill level equivalent to the achievement of HNC, A-level, NVQ3, or equivalent qualification along with experience working in a cleanroom environment and operating machine tools. You should also demonstrate the ability to plan, organise and independently carry out a range of defined tasks and technical procedures using specialist equipment.
The appointment will be at the TAE (Technical and Experimental) Level 3. Salary will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience.
