The role

We are seeking a research associate as part of the NIHR funded Dementia internship programme to contribute to applied dementia research. This is an exciting opportunity to develop research skills while helping to further our knowledge and improve the care of people living with dementia (PLWD) and Parkinson’s. You will work across several projects, gaining experience in a variety of research techniques. Projects may include a qualitative evaluation of a rapid-access Parkinson’s clinic, co-designing a digital platform to enable more personalised domiciliary dementia care provision, a literature review on advanced care planning for neurodegenerative disorders or adapting quality of life questionnaires for PLWD. Other projects may arise subject to the approval of submitted funding applications. You will also have the opportunity to learn about health economics in the context of dementia research.

What will you be doing?

There will be opportunities to contribute to  a variety of tasks based on the needs of the team , including:

  • Assisting with qualitative analyses of interview and focus group data (e.g., coding using NVivo software, developing thematic frameworks).
  • Helping to organise and facilitate co-design workshops with people living with dementia, unpaid carers and care workers.
  • Assisting with literature reviews.
  • Contributing to multidisciplinary team and stakeholder project meetings.
  • Helping to organise and facilitate PPIE activities.
  • Creating research materials (project information, newsletters etc.).
  • Contributing to academic publications and conference submissions.
  • Assisting with ethics applications

We envision the internships as 2 days a week over 7 months but other work patterns/contract lengths will be considered

You should apply if

  • You are interested in working with people living with dementia and carers to improve services
  • You have a good undergraduate degree in a relevant health or social science discipline (e.g. psychology, nursing and allied health professions)
  • You have a relevant postgraduate masters (e.g. public health, health economics, health psychology) or equivalent professional research experience or are working towards PhD
  • You are motivated and have good organisational skills

Please note, due to funder requirements, candidates that have been awarded a PhD are not eligible to apply for these positions.

Work pattern: Part-time/ 0.4FTE (hybrid)

Shift pattern: 14 hours per week
