UCL Mechanical Engineering is a vibrant and dynamic department renowned for its diversity and interdisciplinary research. Our strength lies in our broad range of specialisations, managed by 45 academic staff across four key research areas: Biomechanical, Energy and Environment, Marine and Materials, and Structures and Manufacturing.

We are seeking a research-focused Lecturer in Data-driven Biomechanical Modelling to join the Biomechanical Engineering Group. This group benefits from high-quality dedicated research laboratories and top-notch computational biomechanical analysis tools. It maintains strong and direct engagement with medical clinicians and the biomedical industry, including collaborations with NHS Hospitals and affiliated Biomedical Research Centres. This collaborative approach has led to significant advancements in various areas such as Cardiovascular Computational Modelling, Cancer Mechanobiology and Imaging and Characterising Multiscale Biomechanics etc.

The successful candidate will work closely with the UCL Institute of Healthcare Engineering, which brings together leading researchers from across UCL and partner hospitals to develop the next generation of digital and medical technologies.

The theme of this post is "biomechanical modelling meeting data science." Our Biomechanical Engineering group excels in computational modelling, developing new methods and applying them to a wide spectrum of problems, from fundamental bioscience to clinical practice. This role aims to integrate conventional mathematical and computational modelling approaches with data-driven methods, including statistical and machine learning techniques, adding a new dimension to our existing activities and expertise. We expect the applicant's work to be driven by clinical applications, enhancing our understanding of human biology and physiology.

The post holder will collaborate with the UCL Institute of Healthcare Engineering and UCL-affiliated NIHR Biomedical Research Centres (UCLH, GOSH, Moorfields) with a focus on translating scientific developments into patient outcomes.

Our department is committed to reflecting research excellence in our educational programmes as evidenced by our MSc Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering programme.

We are keen to receive applications from candidates who meet the following criteria: a PhD or EngD in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline; a strong track record of high-quality research reflected in publications or other outputs in relevant areas; expertise in a relevant subject area and its potential to grow research and teaching in biomechanical modelling and data science; a broad subject background in computational modelling and data science enabling contributions to UCL teaching programmes; proven skills in conducting research in bio-engineering; experience in designing and delivering excellent and inclusive undergraduate and postgraduate education; the ability to secure research funding; the ability to supervise PhD students and contribute to collaborative research projects; excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; and the ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment.
