We are seeking a Clinical Research Associate wishing to pursue research in the area of automated insulin delivery (closed loop systems) in adults with diabetes. The research is funded by the National Institute for Health Research and other funding agencies. Possession of GMC licence to practise is essential. The post would suit a doctor in training at UK / IMT level or above (or equivalent), wishing to gain experience in clinical and translational research. Postgraduate training in adult endocrinology / diabetes would be desirable for this post, but not essential. 

Previous experience of clinical research methodology, preferably in the field of diabetes and metabolism would be desirable as would clinical expertise in the use of insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring. The successful applicant will join an internationally recognised team and will be based in the Institute of Metabolic Science on the Addenbrooke's Hospital campus, Cambridge. 

There will be opportunities to pursue individual research projects and to present results at international scientific conferences. Regular contact with other researchers in this field will be expected and encouraged. 

Key responsibilities of the post: 

  • Assume supporting or leading role in research studies.
  • Provide clinical care to study participants.
  • Provide training and technical support to participants and collaborating sites.
  • Analyse data and write scientific papers.
  • Write research protocols and supporting study documents.
  • Make presentations at scientific meetings.

Essential Criteria: 

  • We will only consider applicants who are currently GMC-registered Medical Practitioners, permitted to practise in the UK and who have undertaken their general medical training to the level of Foundation Year 2 or above (or equivalent). 

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance. 

This appointment requires an Honorary Clinical Contract.
