The Department of Critical and Historical Studies at Kingston School of Art sits at the heart of the faculty where it delivers history and theory modules into our studio provision and runs courses in areas related to film and art and design history, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

We are seeking to appoint a 0.6 FTE lecturer in Art History/Critical Studies with a particular focus on Fine Art on a fixed-term basis.

This is a chance to work as part of a team of talented colleagues of international standing who deliver an inspiring curriculum to Kingston School of Art’s students. You will work closely with studio tutors and colleagues in the Department of Critical and Historical Studies, where you will be responsible for developing, leading and delivering modules to students across the faculty with a particular focus on the BA Fine Art course. You will also play a role in supporting the leadership of the Departments BA in Fine Art and Art History.

You will have experience of teaching in higher education to degree level. Experience of postgraduate and of teaching history and theory modules to practice based students in a creative environment will be advantageous.

You will have a developing track record of research and scholarly activity within Visual culture/art history and an interest in a variety of areas of visual culture would be valuable.

As a key member of the department’s staff, you will also be expected to play a central role in wider enterprise, scholarship and research developments, and to be involved in activities relating to the recruitment of students to programmes within the department.

The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and be both student focused and adept at working with diverse groups of people.

This is a part-time (22.2 hours per week), fixed-term role to 1st May 2025 in the first instance.

The salary for the role is £26,492.40 (60% to £44,154) per annum.
