We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join the lab of Prof Kevin Foster, based in the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, University of Oxford.
The post-holder will be responsible for managing own academic research and administrative activities. You will join a dynamic, productive, and interdisciplinary research group, with responsibility for carrying out research to understand communities of mammalian gut bacteria. The overall goal of the project is to study bacterial warfare and competition the human microbiome, with particular focus on imaging of the host-microbiota interface using animal models and custom in-vitro organoid models. A key goal is to work with in-vitro models that co-culture anaerobic microbiota members next to host cells to better understand bacterial competition and interactions in the host environment.
You should hold, or be close to completion of, PhD/DPhil in molecular microbiology, including the study of ecological interactions in bacteria. You should have substantial experience in the development and use of 3D hypoxic intestine-on-a-chip models. The post-holder should also have some experience with the molecular biology of bacteriocins. Excellent organisational and communication skills as well as ability to work independently as well as part of a team are essential.
