An exciting new opportunity has arisen in the Stratified Medical Core Laboratory (SMCL) for a Senior NGS Scientist. This role is primarily focused on implementing the Olink Explore pipeline in the lab, with comprehensive training and support provided. The workflow involves the use of multiple liquid handlers and the Illumina sequencing platform. Additionally, the role includes participation in other NGS activities within the lab as needed.

Key responsibilities include providing expert technical advice and mentoring in next-generation sequencing (NGS) techniques, ensuring high standards of quality and compliance with regulatory guidelines. The role involves developing and implementing protocols, sourcing specialist equipment, and staying informed on advancements to drive innovation in NGS methodologies. You will also support and train students, researchers, and junior staff, coordinate practical class requirements, and manage laboratory budgets, equipment, and consumables. Additionally, the role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams, presenting findings, maintaining lab databases, and contributing to a positive and inclusive departmental culture. There may be occasional travel and out-of-hours work to support the lab's activities.

Our ideal candidate will hold a postgraduate qualification in a relevant field, such as Genomics, Molecular Biology, or Bioinformatics, with advanced expertise across the NGS pipeline. They will have strong experience with automated NGS solutions, a deep understanding of relevant theories and regulations, and excellent IT skills. Precision, accuracy, and the ability to create a friendly, inclusive, and collaborative working environment are essential for success in this role.

This role is based in the Department of Medical Genetics, a friendly and dynamic Department located in the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 28 February 2026 in the first instance.
