About us
The Neural Computation Group is part of the Wolfson Institute for Biomedical Research at UCL. We use optical, electrophysiological and anatomical techniques to understand the how the cellular and network properties of neural circuits contribute to coding and processing of information in the mammalian brain. Working at the interface between cellular and systems neuroscience, and assisted by theoretical approaches, we are interested in evaluating the cellular toolkit that enables single neurons to perform computations, and in turn how single neurons and their patterns of connectivity contribute to the computations performed by neural circuits.
About the role
The Research Fellow / Research Assistant will use CLEM (Correlative Light and Electron Microscopy) to track neuronal structures across volumetric datasets obtained from 2-photon microscopy, electron microscopy and synchrotron x-ray tomography. They will also assist with sub-cellular segmentation and annotation of volumetric datasets for subsequent visualisation aided by machine learning.
About you
The successful candidate will hold a bachelor degree in neuroscience or a related discipline. They should have previous experience with CLEM and the ability to handle volumetric datasets, strong programming skills for data analysis and, ideally, experience in machine learning techniques, processing of 2D and 3D images and handling tomography datasets. Depending on the experience successful applicant will be appointed either as a Research Assistant (Grade 6B) or Research Fellow (Grade 7).

Our commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
As London’s Global University, we know diversity fosters creativity and innovation, and we want our community to represent the diversity of the world’s talent. We are committed to equality of opportunity, to being fair and inclusive, and to being a place where we all belong. We therefore particularly encourage applications from candidates who are likely to be underrepresented in UCL’s workforce. These include people from Black, Asian and ethnic minority backgrounds; disabled people; LGBTQ I+ people; and for our Grade 9 and 10 roles, women. Our department holds an Athena SWAN Silver award, in recognition of our commitment and demonstrable impact in advancing gender equality.
