With a rich history spanning over 125 years, City St George’s Students’ Union’ is the primary organisation representing every City St George’s student. That makes the Students’ Union the representative body for over 27,000 members.
With five Full-Time Student Officers, a team of permanent staff and the involvement of student volunteers, the Students’ Union is at the heart of activity on campus tasked with improving and delivering the best Student Experience. The Students’ Union delivers a range of services and support for its members, from independent academic advice to supporting our Programme Reps to enhance their course, to promoting the employability and development of students through our Communities Team. The Students’ Union also runs a bar and two shops which sell a range of products, including ethically sourced University branding clothing, merchandise, and stationery.
Background
We are looking for an Advice and Support Manager to join our team at City St George’s Students’ Union. In this crucial role, you will lead a dedicated team of advisers, providing expert guidance on a range of academic and money issues as well as delivering a wider support service. You will focus on delivering professional, impartial and confidential advice and will support nearly 1,000 students annually, ensuring the receive the help they need to thrive at university.
Responsibilities
Having recently merged with St George’s Students’ Union to create City St George’s Students’ Union, as well as launching a new space and service model, there is lots of work for the Advice and Support Manager to lead on. Some of the key project for the 2024/25 academic year include creating one advice service across sites, inputting into the new policies for the merged university, developing our AI, digital tools and communications to improve response time and daily administration, and implementing recommendations from the OfS Condition to Address Harassment and Sexual Misconduct.
Person Specification
We are looking for applicants who have a range of experience or in providing academic support or advice, with excellent knowledge of the issues effecting students in higher education and polices and procedures relating to advice. The successful candidate should be experienced in managing staff, budgets and projects, with ability to establish working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, whilst also demonstrating strong analytical skills.
