About us

Join one of the country’s leading Clinical Trials Units.

UCL Institute of Clinical Trials and Methodology was established on 1st August 2013 and is formally comprised of two research departments: The MRC Clinical Trials Unit at UCL (MRC CTU) and the Comprehensive Clinical Trials Unit at UCL (CCTU). The Institute also has two further units that are virtual members: The Cancer Research UK/UCL Cancer Trials Centre and the PRIMENT CTU.

The Institute is a centre of excellence for the conduct of all phases of clinical trials, meta-analysis, and epidemiological studies, across a range of diseases. Key areas of focus for the Institute are continuing to deliver innovations in trial methodology to improve outcomes for patients and training and developing the next generation of trialists. The Institute works with academic collaborators in more than 60 countries worldwide and a significant number of commercial partners.

The CCTU delivers trials at all disease areas and all phases of research, including medical devices and advanced therapies. The unit collaborates with UCL investigators to deliver high-quality and potentially practice-changing research, across all phases of trials from phase 1 to 4. The CCTU is a UKCRC registered trials unit.
The statistics team at CCTU works collectively on all the trials of the department. Junior statisticians are supervised by more senior statisticians. The team is also involved in teaching statistics in clinical trials in the MSc Statistics for Clinical Trials.
