The Centre for Wireless Innovation at Queen’s University Belfast is seeking to appoint one Research Fellow starting on 1st March 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter, for a 24-month period to conduct research on machine learning for cell-free massive MIMO. This position is part of a project funded by the Department for the Economy Northern Ireland under the US-Ireland R&D Partnership Programme, entitled “Enabling Beyond-5G Wireless Access Networks with Robust and Scalable Cell-Free Massive MIMO”.
The successful candidate will work on the design of 6G cell-free massive MIMO systems. The design includes machine learning-based resource allocation, signal processing, and transmission, with the aim of improving energy efficiency and reducing complexity. The candidate will become active members of the Centre for Wireless Innovation and the School of EEECS at QUB, assisting in the production of world leading research output and the development of new research initiatives in the broader area of cell-free massive MIMO research. CWI centre comprises over 75 people (academics, PhDs, PDRAs, industry experience engineers and commercial staff). It is the largest centre in the UK (and one of the largest in Europe) in communications technologies. The research work focuses on massive MIMO, mmWave cellular communications, retrodirective antennas, flat selfsteered high gain active antennas (>24 GHz), secure and energy-efficient small cell networks, high-efficiency switched-mode power amplifiers, electromagnetic media, body-implanted antennas, 5G networks, IoT/Industry 4.0/C-V2X and 5G-V2X, next-generation EO satellites and implantable medical devices.
