The Afe Babalola Centre for Transnational Education at King’s College London, seeks to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Pre-University Transnational Education, based in King’s Foundations, with a focus on co-creating a bridging curriculum for young people planning a route into either Higher Education or employment in the African continent. Current plans involve learners in Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana and South Africa. The curriculum will be delivered and assessed at pre-University level (RQF Level 3). It is anticipated that in the pilot and early stages of the programme, the appointed candidate will lead and contribute to the teaching of the programme. Candidates should have expertise in online and blended pedagogies and, ideally, experience working in an African context. Ideally, candidates will have lived experience of African context and the ability to collaborate with stakeholders on the content around the design and development of this programme.

The successful candidate will lead on the design and delivery of a Level 3 bridging/foundation programme, as well as developing a framework of academic and pastoral support for learners. Whilst it is anticipated that this will be a largely online programme, there will be a need to build in in-person provision in the longer term, as part of the support that will be required in-country. They will also be responsible for oversight of the delivery of teaching initial student cohorts and will be able to pursue opportunities for conducting high quality education-focused scholarship in their field. The focus of scholarship should include practice and/or impact-focused approaches to pedagogy (e.g. co-creation with learners) and have an interdisciplinary dimension. They will receive mentoring and support to develop their skills and experience in this area.

The appointment is to the Academic Education Pathway (AEP), which is focused on the delivery of education, education-related scholarship, and leadership in education. Indicatively 80% of a staff member’s activities will be accounted for by a combination of teaching, supervision, student support, educational leadership and innovation, and administration; the remaining 20% will be dedicated to scholarship. Staff on the AEP are not contractually obliged to carry out research and will not have significant responsibility for research.

This is a full-time (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed-term contract for 3 years.

Appointments to this role will be subject to a DBS check.
