About the university

Located in Xi’an, Shaanxi, Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) is a multi-disciplinary national key university and listed as one of the 15 key universities in China by the State Council in the 7th and 8th Five-Year Plan, and also one of the first universities to enter the “Project 211”in 1995 and the “Project 985” in 2001. About the School of Foreign Studies

First-Class Platform. The school currently has 1 doctoral program, 4 master's programs, 2 undergraduate majors, 1 minor, and 2 micro-majors. In 2020, the English major was selected as a national first-class professional construction point, and in 2021, the German major was selected as a first-class professional construction point in Shaanxi Province. The school has 4 stable second-level discipline directions: comparative literature and cross-cultural studies, foreign linguistics and applied linguistics, translation studies, and national and regional studies. We have 1 national excellent teaching team, 2 excellent teaching teams in Shaanxi Province. The college has platforms such as High-level International Talents Training Innovation Practice Base, a Shaanxi Province liberal arts teaching demonstration center, Jordan Research Center (recorded by the Ministry of Education as a country and regional research center), The Belt and Road Initiative Intercultural Research Institute, a Model United Nations Innovation Practice Base, and Corpus Linguistics Laboratory. It currently has the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures (with the Institute of Foreign Languages and Literatures, English Teaching and Research Office, German Teaching and Research Office, and MTI Education Center), the College English Teaching Department (with the First College English Teaching and Research Office and the Second College English Teaching and Research Office), and the Graduate Public Foreign Language Teaching Department.

First-Class Team. The college insists on taking discipline construction as the traction, continuously increasing the introduction and cultivation of talents. There are currently 100 full-time teachers, including 15 professors, 69 associate professors, and 57 doctoral and master's supervisors; 1 distinguished professor appointed by the Ministry of Education, 2 members of the Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, 4 Baosteel Outstanding Teachers, 1 national engineering master English expert, 1 person in the Shaanxi Province “six batches” of talents, 1 person in the Shaanxi Province Special Support Plan for teaching leaders, 4 Famous teachers in Shaanxi Province, 1 person in the Shaanxi Province Humanities Talent Plan, and 3 members of the Shaanxi Province Teaching Guidance Committee. The college has hired 2 visiting professors, 3 lecture professors, 2 advisory professors, and 1 distinguished researcher from well-known universities at home and abroad through an honorary academic title system.

First-Class Achievements. The college continuously deepens educational teaching reform and has achieved fruitful teaching results. Since 2009, the College has been awarded three second-class prizes for excellent teaching achievements at the national level; approved 1 national excellent course, 1 national excellent resource-sharing course, and 2 national first-class online courses, in addition to 8 provincial-level courses. In the past five years, it has undertaken more than 40 provincial and ministerial-level projects such as the National Social Science Fund; approved 6 provincial and ministerial scientific research awards; applied nearly 20 provincial and ministerial results, published more than 400 high-level papers in internationally renowned journals; and published more than 80 monographs and textbooks.

First-Class Support. The university's salary level is competitive among domestic universities. After young teachers join, the university and the school will provide coordinated support in scientific research platforms and graduate student indicators. The university provides top-notch basic educational resources for children of talents (especially the affiliated high school, which is strong and sends about 100 high-quality students to Tsinghua and Peking University every year), and children's entry into nurseries and schools is completely worry-free, providing strong support for talents to focus on teaching and scientific research.

Responsibilities:

Research

To develop a broad range of research within literature and cross-cultural studies, foreign linguistics and applied linguistics, translation studies, and national and regional studies, broadly defined.

To direct, lead, or contribute to, a research area at the highest scientifically rigorous levels disseminating findings in peer reviewed journals, and through participation in national and international conferences.

To supervise, train and mentor research staff and students at the highest scientifically rigorous levels.

To foster scientific collaborations through organising, attending and contributing to multidisciplinary meetings, within the Department and with other appropriate parties .

To attend and contribute to research and administrative meetings within the Department as and when requested.

Education -Teaching and Training.

To teach and examine courses at all levels - undergraduate, masters and higher research degrees-through lectures, seminars, tutorials, course work and personal supervision.

To plan and review own approach to teaching.

To supervise PhD candidates. To contribute to curriculum development at School and broader level.

To work collaboratively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and the College as required.

Compensation and Benefits:

The appointed position

Public institution establishment: professors are granted senior professional technical positions, and associate professors are granted deputy senior professional technical positions.

Compensation Package

Professors receive RMB 510,000, and Associate Professors receive RMB 400,000 , plus bonus performance, research, and other income, plus personalized rewards from the college.

Research Support

Research Funding: RMB100,000-300,000 (depending on the characteristics of the discipline).

Living Support

RMB 200,000-300,000, tax-free.

About Xi’an :

Xi’an, the eternal city, records the great changes of the Chinese nation just like a living history book. Called Chang'an in ancient times, Xian is one of the birthplaces of the ancient civilization in the Yellow River Basin area of the country. During Xian's 3,100 year development, 13 dynasties placed their capitals here. So far, Xian enjoys equal fame with Athens, Cairo, and Rome as one of the four major ancient civilization capitals. 

Xian is the capital of Shaanxi province, located in the southern part of the Guanzhong Plain. With the Qinling Mountains to the south and the Weihe River to the north, it is in a favorable geographical location surrounded by water and hills. It has a semi-moist monsoon climate and there is a clear distinction between the four seasons. Except the colder winter, any season is relatively suitable for traveling.

Xian is the most important city in northwest China, and so there are a lot of shopping outlets for locals and tourists alike. There are many big shopping centers, department stores and supermarkets in and around Xian city - the biggest and most comprehensive being Kai Yuan Shopping Mall and Century Ginwa Shopping Mall.
