About IOE
IOE is UCL Faculty of Education and Society.
Founded in 1902, IOE has been shaping policy and helping government, organisations and individuals navigate a changing society for the last 120 years. We embrace collaboration and excellence to create a future that is inclusive and just, and have been ranked number one for education every year since 2014 in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.
The Social Research Institute is one of the leading centres for social research in the UK. It is home to seven internationally renowned research units:
The Centre for Longitudinal Studies is multidisciplinary research centre, and is funded by ESRC as a Resource Centre which leads four of Britain's internationally renowned cohort studies:
The Centre has also recently been funded to test the feasibility of establishing a new UK birth cohort study, the Early Life Cohort Feasibility Study (funded by ESRC), and is collaborating on two further new longitudinal studies, the Children of the 2020s (funded by DfE) and the Covid Social Mobility study (COSMO) (funded by UKRI).
About the role
We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to join the team of the Economic and Social Research Council funded project, ‘Communities in Crises’ (https://www.ucl.ac.uk/ioe/departments-and-centres/centres/quantitative-social-science/communities-crises).
The research project seeks to analyse national and international social survey data to explore the short- and long-term role of social resources in processes of resilience and recovery for health, wellbeing and social inclusion, during and in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. The role requires knowledge of advanced statistical methods for the analysis of cross-sectional and longitudinal social surveys.
The role will involve contributing to outputs including publications in peer-reviewed journals. It will also provide opportunities for participation in dissemination activities via national and international conferences, alongside providing support in organising other relevant dissemination events, liaising with project stakeholders, and involvement in press releases. The role will involve close collaboration with the Principal Research Fellow and other project researchers, including those from other institutions involved in the project.
The position will provide the right candidate with significant opportunities to expand their publication track record, as well as opportunities to lead publications; to participate in national and international conferences; and to expand their research networks, both within UCL but also internationally.
The post is available until 31st July 2026 in the first instance.
