The role

The University of Bristol’s IT Services division is seeking an enthusiastic, skilled, and passionate professional to join our Research, Arts, Law and Social Sciences Academic Applications Team.

This is a senior level technical role that is part of the team that co-designs, implements, maintains, and continually develops and improves the specialist services supporting and promoting research at the University and for services within the Arts, Law and Social Sciences faculty portfolio of digital services.

The team has currently has 4 members with a broad range of specialist technical skills and experience and is part of Digital Applications within IT Operations, IT Services.

What will you be doing?

The role holder will act as the Technical Service Manager (TSM) for a range of Services, working with internal and external stakeholders to maintain/support/migrate services through their complete service lifecycle, and as the team’s Senior Engineer you will provide technical support to your colleagues.

You will maintain a culture of continuous improvement to enhance service delivery within the team and wider IT Services.

You will be responsible to create and regularly maintain technical documentation for new services and provide instruction to IT Services’ Service Desk and End User support teams to enable them to support the services.

Showing initiative and agility in maintaining services, you will be confident working independently as well as part of a team. You will be a champion of the IT Services Charter and Change Management and support the delivery of the Digital Strategy.

You should apply if

You:

  • Have experience developing and supporting Java applications, Azure, Docker, SQL
  • Have understanding and experience of ITIL concepts particularly Incident, Service Request and Change Management.
  • Are versed in modern system administration approaches, such as automation, configuration management, version control, monitoring and alerting.
  • Are highly motivated and enthusiastic about working in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment
  • Can engage with external suppliers and vendors.
  • Can communicate with others of varying technical levels, be that in person or email video call, instant messaging, or telephone.

Additionally, the following skills are desirable:

  • Experience of Research costing, administration and publication.
  • Experience with Web APIs and integrating with cloud services
