About the Role
For informal enquiries, please contact Siobhan Quenby (IAT Lead, Professor of Obstetrics) at S.Quenby@warwick.ac.uk.
Warwick Medical School seeks to appoint an NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer in Cardiology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology or Public Health, based at the University of Warwick. We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual wishing to excel in both their clinical and academic training, with the ambition to join the next generation of leading clinical academics.
You will spend 50% of your time undertaking specialist clinical training and 50% undertaking research or education/training. This is a fixed term post for 4 years or until CCT/CCST is reached, whichever is sooner. Successful exit from the programme will leave you well-placed to apply for competitive research fellowships, academic senior lectureships and to continue to work in the global health research community. Further details of the academic training pathway can be found at www.nihr.ac.uk/
Funding for 1 post is available. The Postgraduate Dean has confirmed that this post has the required educational and staffing approval and will come with an Academic National Training Number [NTN(A)]. The salary will be at the clinical scale, depending on qualifications and experience.
The ACL will have regular supervision meetings with their clinical academic supervisor. The ACL will spend 50% of their time in full-time academic activity each year, to enable them to complete an intense period of research or educational activity to support grant application. They will establish an independent research portfolio, by applying successfully for external grants, publishing in peer review journals and disseminating results at national and international conferences.
In addition, the ACL will work collaboratively with colleagues to build a strong research portfolio in WMS, UHCW and the wider University. They will be expected to be actively involved in the postgraduate teaching programme and contribute to the supervision of Academic Clinical Fellows and PhD students; providing academic mentoring and advice for colleagues working in the NHS and/or in public health.
The successful candidate will be employed by the University of Warwick and hold Honorary Contracts with the University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW) or other NHS Trust relevant to their training needs. Public health registrars will hold an honorary contract with the regional employer, St Helen’s and Knowsley NHS Trust.
About You
Applicants should be medically qualified, ST3 and above, have full GMC registration and already hold, or have submitted for Higher Degree (PhD/DPhil/MD).
You will have evidence of academic achievement, with publications in your field, and will already hold an NTN, having undertaken some training at Specialty Registrar level.
The post is ideally suited to individuals wishing to build an academic career, and in particular those who have already undertaken research and who now wish to continue undertaking research whilst pursuing further training.
