The role
Building on Bristol Dental School’s success in NIHR-Clinical Academic Training, we are inviting applications for an Academic Clinical Lecturer in Oral Surgery or post-CCT orthodontics. We have a strong track record of supporting and developing clinical academic trainees through to senior posts and this appointment will contribute to the strategic development of our clinical academic workforce. This post is open to candidates eligible for appointment to specialty training in oral surgery or post-CCT ST4 level or above in orthodontics, and who have been awarded or have submitted their PhD at the time of application.
This post provides an excellent opportunity for a trainee with outstanding potential to develop a successful career in academic dentistry within a thriving and supportive environment in a new, state-of-the-art Dental School. Clinical training will be based in hospitals that participate in the NHS England South West training programme in oral surgery or orthodontics. Research opportunities and environments in Bristol for a successful applicant include clinical trials, health services research, epidemiology, routinely collected healthcare data analysis, translational science, evidence synthesis and laboratory research in molecular microbiology and materials science. There are ample opportunities to collaborate and be supported to build a competitive application for future funding.
What will you be doing?
The role holder will undertake a programme of post-doctoral research and academic training, to build a competitive application for a post-doctoral fellowship. They will spend the remaining 50% of their time completing clinical training in their chosen specialty and gaining eligibility to apply for inclusion on the General Dental Council’s specialty list.
