Applications are invited for an appointment as Lecturer in Medical Intern Education at the University of Galway. The post is offered as either a single full-time post or as two job sharing half-time posts.
The primary purpose of this post is to provide education and teaching leadership to the intern programme at Galway University Hospitals and the wider West North West Intern Network. Development of the education programme in line with best practice and changing requirements for clinical practice, is part of this role. There are approx. 150 interns spread across 9 hospital sites in the network and a number of GP practices in the region. The interns are students of the School of Medicine and employees of the HSE. The post holder will be expected to plan and contribute to the intern education program in the West North West Intern network. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in quality improvement and scholarship of intern education. The post-holder will work as part of the team with the clinical intern coordinator and the grade 5 intern programme administrator. In addition, the post-holder will be situated in the discipline of medical education within the school of medicine.
The School of Medicine is responsible for intern education and training across the West North West Intern network. The lecturer in medical intern education has responsibility for the interns affiliated to the University of Galway as they complete their 12-month internship and for planning and delivery of the education and training programme. The training requirements and responsibilities are outlined in a service level agreement between the Health Service Executive National Doctors Training and Planning (HSE NDTP) and the School of Medicine, University of Galway.
The post holder will coordinate, deliver and run the intern education and training programme as per the SLA.

Salary: €62,376 to €99,508 pro rata p.a. (applicable to new entrants effective from January 2011) This appointment will be made on the Lecturer scale in line with current Government pay policy and in accordance with the terms and conditions of the University’s Remuneration policy.
