The Department of Computer Science is pleased to invite applications for the Glasstone Fellowship in Computer Science. This prestigious post, is a three-year postdoctoral fellowship and is supported by the Glasstone Bequest, which was set up to encourage scientists at an early stage of their career to follow their research interests at Oxford, one of the world’s leading science universities. Preference will be given to candidates who are at an early stage in their research career and who have not already held an independent fellowship.

The Fellow will receive active mentoring from members of the Department but will be encouraged and expected to set an independent research agenda in one or more of the research areas of the Department, broadly construed. To that end, they will have access to substantial travel and research funds and participate fully in the Department’s vibrant programme of visitors and seminars.

Applications are especially welcome from women and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts at Oxford.

Applicants must hold a PhD/DPhil in Computer Science or a cognate discipline, by the start of the fellowship on 1st of October 2025. Preference will be given to candidates who are within 3 years of their PhD (by 1st of October 2025). Applications must be made online. Candidates will be asked to complete an Application Form, upload a CV and a two-page statement of their research plans, and are encouraged, where appropriate, to identify members of the Department with overlapping research interests. Candidates must also arrange for three supporting reference letters to be sent by email to glasstone.fellowship@cs.ox.ac.uk by the application deadline. The name of the referees should also be provided on the Application Form.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on 6th January 2025. Interviews are expected to take place in the week starting 10th February 2025.

All applicants will be judged on merit, according to the selection criteria. We would particularly welcome applications from women and black and minority ethnic applicants who are currently under-represented within the Computer Science Department. Our staff and students come from all over the world and we proudly promote a friendly and inclusive culture through diversity groups and champions, for example http://www.cs.ox.ac.uk/aboutus/women-cs-oxford/index, as well as a number of family-friendly policies, such as the right to apply for flexible working and support for staff returning from periods of extended absence, for example shared parental leave.

We are a Stonewall Top 100 Employer, Living Wage, holding an Athena Swan Bronze Award, HR excellence in Research and Race Equality Charter Bronze Award.
