Lodge Manager (Head Porter)

Univ is recruiting for a full time Lodge Manager (Head Porter) to manage its lodge operations. The Lodge is a vital part of the College.  It is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, throughout the year when the College is open and is the welfare, information and security hub of the College for many students, staff and Fellows. 

It is staffed by a team of seven full time/part time porters who are a crucial part of College life – combining welfare skills where needed with practical knowhow in many situations to help students through their time at Univ.  The Lodge Manager’s role is key in leading this team, which is a core part of the College’s support network and ensuring that the highest degree of professionalism and confidentiality is maintained. 

The post-holder will report to the Domestic Bursar and is expected to work closely with College Officers, Fellows and staff in the exercise of their day-to-day duties.  Good bearing and a command of the respect of all members of the College is imperative, as is a compassionate and empathetic approach to people and an affinity for working with young people in an educational setting. 

In addition, experience of managing staff in a customer facing role is essential together with a relevant management qualification or equivalent experience.  You will also be well organised, good at multi-tasking and flexible in your approach to work and changing demands day to day
