The PCHD at the NIE comprises of a team of educators, psychologists and counsellors passionate about the application of psychology to general education, as well as the specialized domains of psychology/counselling/early childhood and special needs education.
We invite suitably qualified applicants for positions as Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Special Needs Education. This position provides the opportunity to teach undergraduate/postgraduate students in the specialisation areas of special needs education and to pursue research in areas of special needs education.
Requirements
Successful candidates must have:
- A doctorate degree in a relevant field, preferably with specialization in special needs education
- Applicants will be in a position of added advantage if familiar with the Singapore education system
- Evidence of outstanding teaching and their innovative uses of technology
- Evidence of research in the areas of special needs education
- A strong commitment to and aptitude for teaching at both undergraduate/graduate levels
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Full membership in a national psychological association/society (Singapore Psychological Society, American Psychological Association etc) or be eligible for full membership
- Willingness to understand and support the work of colleagues beyond one’s niche area of expertise.
Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be expected to:
- Teach existing and new courses at undergraduate/higher degree levels, as well as preservice and in-service teacher education courses, more specifically in teacher training and professional development in special needs education
- Engage in research that informs policy and practice
- Develop a research agenda and programme, and to publish in reputable journals as is customary in his/her field
- Establish professional connections with local and international researchers and practitioners involved in his/her specific areas of expertise
- Share expertise with NIE colleagues through various platforms
- Undertake administrative and/or leadership roles and to contribute to other service-related activities at the departmental and Institutional levels
- Engage in programme leadership and curriculum design and development.
