The English Language and Literature Department (ELL) at the NIE, invites qualified applicants to apply for the Lecturer up to Senior Lecturer position, specializing in the area of English Language and Literacy Development (Primary level). As an academic department within an institution devoted to teacher education, ELL is dedicated to innovative teaching and high-quality research in the areas of English language and linguistics, literature, and teacher education.

Requirements

Applicants should minimally satisfy the following criteria:

  • A PhD/EdD qualification in the area of English Language/Literacy from a university of good international standing
    (applicants who are nearing completion of their doctoral studies will be considered but PhD/EdD must be in hand for the appointment);
  • Experience teaching English at the primary level, preferably in Singapore schools;
  • An established record of excellent teaching at the tertiary level as evidenced, among others, by student feedback on teaching;
  • Experience in designing, teaching, and managing courses in areas relevant to the position at the tertiary level;
  • Experience of teaching different profiles and levels of students, e.g. students across different disciplines, undergraduates and graduate students;
  • Experience of research in areas relevant to English Language/Literacy, and
  • Demonstrate academic leadership and service in their university and department, and in the profession.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Contribute to teaching and course development at the undergraduate/graduate levels, as well as related activities such as supervision of teaching practice/undergraduate research projects;
  • Engage in research and maintain a good publication record;
  • Establish professional connections with local/international researchers and practitioners involved in the specific expertise area;
  • Undertake administrative and/or leadership roles and contribute to other service-related activities at the department or institution level.

  • A statement of research interests (maximum 2 pages);
  • Two sample publications; and
  • Names, addresses, and email addresses of three academic referees. 

Please note that shortlisted applicants will be first invited for an online interview. If selected to proceed to the next round, they will be invited for a campus visit where they will be expected to present a job talk, and to conduct a lesson in their area of expertise for our students at NIE.
