About the role

The Bodleian Libraries is the library service supporting the University of Oxford and the largest university library system in the United Kingdom. The Bodleian Libraries Admissions Office handles requests for admission by readers who are not currently officially affiliated to the University of Oxford. A Bodleian Libraries Assistant Admissions Officer is needed to work in the busy, challenging, front-of-house Admissions Office.

This is a permanent post on a paid-as-claimed basis. The Office operates with two shifts on weekdays (9:00 to 13:00 and 13:00 to 17:00) and one on Saturdays (10:00 to 14:00). We are at our busiest in September, January and throughout the summer period. You may be asked to cover one or two shifts at short notice and, rarely, you may also be asked to cover the Office on your own.

About You

You will report to the Bodleian Libraries Admissions Officer and work as part of a small, friendly and busy team mainly to receive new/returning applicants wishing to access the Bodleian Libraries. You will establish whether admission is appropriate and administer the admission process, as well as provide successful applicants with a general introduction to the Libraries.

You will be able to make decisions and solve problems under pressure in a calm and efficient manner, and use diplomacy and tact in busy and difficult situations. You will also have strong communication skills, good instincts for exercising discretion where appropriate, knowledge of the Bodleian Libraries collections, and wide knowledge of the structure of academic institutions locally, nationally and internationally.

Application Process

You will be required to upload all the below:

  • A supporting evidence form using the attached template (or supporting statement), detailing how you meet each of the selection criteria listed on the Job Description
  • A CV
  • Contact details of two referees (only contacted if you are successful)

Only applications received online by 12.00 midday (GMT) on Wednesday 20 November 2024 can be considered. Interviews are expected to take place in person on Thursday 5 December and Friday 6 December 2024.
