We have achieved excellent results in the National Student Survey over a number of years and the University currently has a triple Gold award in the Teaching Excellence Framework and more than 90% of Bath research submitted was ranked as ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’ in the Research Excellence Framework

We are specifically looking for someone to work with the other staff with a background in geotechnics to ensure our students have a high-quality education. Our ideal candidate will have both industry and academic teaching experience and be able to demonstrate an understanding of the geotechnical challenges faced in the UK. The teaching and learning environment within the Department includes a range of teaching methods with online or in-person delivery, including lecturing, tutorials with large and small groups, placement visits, studio teaching and preparation of online learning resources. The activities will range from lectures with around 250 students to 1:1 studio teaching.  This teaching role covers all aspects of the design, delivery and development of education on the University of Bath’s taught programmes. You will not necessarily be expected to undertake the full range at any one time but may be required to do any of them, according to the changing needs in the Department.

This role is full time for a fixed term of 2 years from 7th April 2025, but it may be converted to a permanent role, based on business need.

About you

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject area
  • Experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level
  • A creative vision for delivery of taught programmes and teaching innovations
  • Depth and breadth of understanding of Geotechnical Engineering at a complex conceptual level

You will have an ongoing commitment to continuing professional development and scholarship, engaging with a deep and broad study of Geotechnical Engineering, familiarity with the current boundaries of knowledge and how they are advanced, and active participation in the development of education.

You will be a kind and culturally aware leader who fosters an environment where every individual is valued and respected, regardless of their background or identity. You will understand that change is inevitable and necessary, actively encouraging your team to adapt and evolve. By promoting a culture of openness and inclusivity, you will create a dynamic and empowered team that can thrive in today's changing world.
