The role

The role holder will represent the University of Bristol as a senior member of this £13m project’s delivery partnership, comprised of peers from the Digital Catapult, West Midlands 5G and Cambridge Wireless and they will direct strategic planning, management and control of Bristol’s contractual obligations for the project, with overall responsibility for governance and quality of Work Package outputs.

The role holder will also advise the project’s Academic Lead and PI on, and coordinate the implementation of, the future strategic development of this flagship project in the Advanced Telecoms sector which is designated a critical technology by the government. This includes supporting the case for refunding of UKTIN, the grant for which expires on 31.3.25.

What will you be doing?

Lead and manage the University of Bristol’s UKTIN team to deliver work packages related to Insight Reports, Development of Technology Roadmaps and Translational Research.

Work with senior colleagues from all areas of the University, with committees and external bodies (especially the project’s partners, Digital Catapult, West Midlands 5G and Cambridge Wireless and its funder, DSIT) to establish new strategic approaches for UKTIN services to contribute to best practice in the Advanced Telecoms sector.

Represent the University externally in sector groups and in external fora relating to UKTIN and the Advanced Telecoms sector, networking with external professionals, agencies and organisations and influencing sector policy for the benefit of the University.

You should apply if

You have:

  • Relevant professional or academic qualification (e.g. PhD), or equivalent proven track record of authoritative understanding of Advanced Telecoms
  • Highly developed knowledge of the principles, theory and practice of Advanced Telecoms and a breadth of vision gained from extensive experience in Advanced Telecoms or equivalent
  • Strong interpersonal skills including motivation, negotiating, influencing and networking nationally
  • Experience of the HEP sector or a similar complex organisation
