Are you passionate about key elements of cognitive psychology? We have an excellent opportunity for an Associate Lecturer A to teach Introduction to Cognition, at Birkbeck, University of London.

As an Associate Lecturer in the School of Psychological Sciences, you would teach:

Your role will be to deliver teaching to Birkbeck students, in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully, and to undertake all related course administrative duties as required.

Your main responsibility will be preparation, teaching, administration and assessment of the Introduction to Cognition module, which is a Level 4 module offered on our BPS-accredited BSc Psychology.

This module provides students with a grounding in key elements of cognitive psychology and introduce them to the study of problem-solving and decision-making. Full materials for all lectures will be provided.

As an Associate Lecturer, you will be working closely with the module convenor to organise, deliver and assess the module.

Further to the person specification, essential requirements for this role are:

  • Experience of lecturing to groups of up to 120 students.
  • MSc in Psychology or a related area (required); PhD preferred.

Salary and benefits

Payment is based on an hourly rate for contact hours worked. The specific rate depends on length of continuous service with the College and includes of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay. This hourly rate of £68.13 per hour is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.

Contract

Part-time, 3 month fixed-term. Teaching Tuesday afternoons, 2-5pm and 6-9pm, January to March 2025. The module requires 10 teaching sessions, 3 hours each, to be delivered Tuesday either 2-5pm or 6-9pm January to March, according to a pre-defined teaching schedule (teaching is shared with the module convenor).
