The Post
Applications are invited for a Grade 7/8 lectureship in Earth & Environmental Chemistry within Biological & Sciences (BES). Within BES, we provide a deep-time, science-based perspective on contemporary environmental issues through new understandings of the complex relationships between long-term environmental change, human adaptations and resilience embedded in landscapes. Earth and Environmental Chemistry spans the interlinked disciplines of geology, soil science, hydrology, ecology and atmospheric science, making it a central discipline underpinning mitigation and adaptation to global change, environmental pollution and degradation, water quality and soil protection.
This appointment is expected to complement existing expertise in this area, exploit newly emerging research areas and facilitate linkages between environmental chemistry and other research interests both in BES and elsewhere in the Faculty. The successful candidate will have, or be very close to completing, a PhD in a relevant discipline with expertise in biogeochemistry, and related analytical techniques in environmental sciences, and have demonstrable data analysis and field skills. Areas of teaching to be delivered include: environmental chemistry, geological structures and processes and analytical techniques in environmental sciences. The successful candidate will also be expected to undertake internationally excellent research, high quality research-led teaching, appropriate administration and other activities in Biological and Environmental Sciences, integrating with activities across the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
