The role
ALSPAC is a one of the largest birth cohort studies in the world that has collected comprehensive and detailed information on study children and their parents from pregnancy through to young adulthood Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children | Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children | University of Bristol. ALSPAC has collected data from medical records, linkage to other databases, questionnaires measures, hands-on assessment clinics and analyses of biological samples collected over a 35 year period.
The clinic practitioner will be collecting data from ALSPAC participants within a new exciting ALSPAC sub-study.

What will you be doing?
The clinic practitioner will be required to undertake training in clinical data collection methods, in order to complete practical assessments (which will include a cognitive test, OCT eye measure and refraction measure and hearing test) on study participants aged 65-85 years of age, and all administrative duties associated with these assessments including entering results on to a computer-based data collection system.
The data collection will be completed in a clinic setting at the ALSPAC new headquarters in Southmead Learning and Research Building. The role holder will be responsible for ensuring data collection and measurements are conducted within research governance and good clinical practice guidelines, and that data collected is of a consistently high quality.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, motivated and methodical team workers with excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to ongoing professional development. Experience of clinical data collection will be valuable, as the role will ensuring adherence to research governance and Good Clinical Practice standards. In addition, the candidate should be have excellent computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft packages. Previous experience in collecting eye measurement data such as OCT (optical coherence tomography) would be desirable but not essential.

Contract type: Open-ended with funding until 13/02/2026
Work pattern: Part-time/0.68 FTE (Monday – Saturday, occasional bank holidays and evening shifts)
Shift pattern: 24 hours per week (3 x 8-hour days)
