The role

Continuing on the success of the NIHR-Clinical Lectureship scheme at the University of Bristol, we are able to invite applications for an Academic Clinical Lecturer in Trauma and Orthopaedics or Neurology post under the NIHR prevention theme.

This post is open to candidates at ST3 level or above who have been awarded or submitted their MD or PhD at the time of application. This post provides an excellent opportunity for a trainee with outstanding potential to develop a successful career in academic Trauma and Orthopaedics or Neurology, within a thriving and supportive environment.

For Trauma and Orthopaedics, the clinical training will be based in hospitals that participate in the Severn Deanery Trauma and Orthopaedic rotation. Research opportunities and environments in Bristol for a successful Trauma and Orthopaedic applicant include clinical trials, qualitative research, health economics, routinely collected healthcare data analysis, translational statistics, evidence synthesis and patient focused outcomes.

For Neurology, the clinical training will be based in hospitals that participate in the Severn Deanery Neurology rotation. For a successful Neurology applicant, Neurology research in Bristol focuses on movement disorders, neuroinflammation, stroke and dementia and spans wet lab through to clinical research.

What will you be doing?

The Academic Clinical Lectureship is designed to provide postdoctoral support for a talented clinical academic with a bona fide interest in this academic area who has submitted their higher degree (PhD, MD or equivalent) prior to applying for the post. It provides 50% salary support to allow the clinician to set aside time to develop their academic skills with the remaining 50% funding provided for clinical training In Trauma and Orthopaedics or Neurology according to the training needs of the successful candidate.

You should apply if

  • You are a Trauma and Orthopaedic or Neurology trainee with an academic interest interested in developing your academic career
  • You wish to develop your research skills in one of the areas above, based in the department of Translational Health Sciences at the University of Bristol
  • You have at least submitted your MD or PhD prior to application
  • You hold a National Training Number in Trauma and Orthopaedics or Neurology at ST3 level or above

Additional information

Contract type: Clinical annually renewable contract for a period of up to 4 years or until CCT, whichever occurs first

Work pattern: Full Time

Grade: Doctor in Training

Salary: £32,398 to £63,152 per annum

(We will mirror the successful applicants NHS pay and progression including transitional pay arrangement)School/Unit: Bristol Medical School

Shift pattern: 40 hours per week / 1FTE
