This is an exciting opportunity for a GOC registered optometrist to join the Department of Optometry as a University Practitioner/Senior University Practitioner. We are seeking to grow and expand the optometry team as part of our plans to develop optometry at Huddersfield.
The Department is part of the School of Applied Sciences, which includes the subject areas of Pharmacy and Life and Physical Sciences. Optometry enjoys purpose built and fully equipped teaching and clinical areas, part of a ~£18.2 million development in the School of Applied Sciences in 2019. The Department also hosts, unique to optometric education in the UK, the joint-venture clinical enterprise, University Valli Opticians, where students develop key clinical skills within an operating optical business. The Department also hosts a dedicated research centre: Centre for Vision across the Life Span (CVLS), that includes facilities for research in visual psychophysics, accommodation and myopia, and retinal imaging and other areas.
To complement our existing team, you will be an engaging practitioner, keen to deliver high quality education and who can contribute to our strategic ambitions. You should have knowledge of contemporary optometry practice and awareness of developments and changes in healthcare education.
With a Masters in a relevant area or BSc in Optometry and specialist qualifications, you will be registered as an optometrist with the General Optical council and have contemporary clinical experience. Your optometric background and experience will enable you to deliver high quality learning experience to our optometry students. You will also work alongside your colleagues in shared teaching and learning modules, so it is essential that you have good collaborative and interprofessional working skills.
Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or the capacity to obtain this within 12 months of appointment is also required.
This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. Regular status checks may also be required, depending on your role.
As a Practitioner we expect you to be actively engaged in practice in addition to your role at the University. This can be either through paid employment with another employer, paid consultancy or freelance work.
The University is deeply committed to equality and diversity for all its students and staff. We seek to be diverse and inclusive, supporting individuals and groups to fulfil their potential and nurture a sense of belonging. We strive to be an accessible, inclusive employer, removing barriers for all. Find out more about our approach to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, including our commitments and accreditations as a Disability Confident Employer, Stonewall Gold Award holder and Top 100 Employer, Athena SWAN Bronze Award holder and Race Equality Charter Bronze Award holder.
