This is an exciting role as manager of a programme of events and activities to support the successful delivery of a Bio-based Manufacturing Cluster for Scotland. IBioIC recently won funding to act as Cluster Management Organisation and this is a pivotal role in designing and delivering activities that will deliver its long-term objectives.
FTE: 1 (35 hours/week)
Term: Fixed Term (24 months)
The Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre (IBioIC) was established in 2014 to stimulate growth of the Industrial Biotechnology (IB) sector in Scotland by leveraging the knowledge and expertise in Scottish Universities and Further Education Colleges. IBioIC has become a European centre of excellence, connecting global industry with outstanding academic expertise to bring new IB processes and products to the international market.
Hosted by the University of Strathclyde, IBioIC is a key driver of Scotland’s National Plan for Industrial Biotechnology (NPIB) with ambitious goals to support a cluster of 220 companies, 4,000 jobs and £1.2bn in associated turnover by 2025. IBioIC has been pivotal in delivering growth, building a dynamic critical mass of connections and knowledge, to facilitate collaborations between the business community and Universities and Colleges, supporting skills and talent development, technical innovation in companies, scale-up support, and entrepreneurship training.
Scotland won a £7.5m Innovate UK Launchpad funding for Bio-Based Manufacturing that will builds on local innovation strengths, supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to deliver jobs, growth, and higher productivity. This Launchpad will drive innovations in bio-based manufacturing, promoting sustainable production methods. The University of Strathclyde (IBioIC) recently won funding to operate as the Cluster Management Organisation (CMO) to support the successful delivery of this Launchpad, to build the cluster and ensure its long-term objectives can be delivered.
This is an exciting new role that will play a critical role in the design and delivery of a suite of Launchpad activities and resources, which include events, training, and market intelligence. The programme manager will work across IBioIC, with relevant external and internal stakeholders and industry groups to establish and deliver CMO activities. The job holder will work as part of a small team but will be given the opportunity to take on significant responsibility and operate independently.
Previous experience of business engagement, account or project management or consultancy is advantageous. An interest and understanding of the applications of biotechnology would also be valuable. You must be confident speaking to a range of stakeholders and to all levels of target companies. Experience in the design and delivery of events would also be useful for this role.
Applications are invited from candidates seeking a diverse and challenging job. The successful candidate will work independently and build effective relationships with team members and key stakeholders including Innovate UK, Scottish Enterprise and Forth Valley College.
