Applications are invited for an appointment as University of Galway Academic Lead for the CUMAS Programme for Students with Intellectual Disabilities, at University of Galway.
This post is being offered as a specific purpose contract and will terminate by reason of the expiry of its specific purpose. It is anticipated that the duration of this assignment will be circa 2 years.
The Cumas Programme for Students with Intellectual Disability at University of Galway acknowledges and scaffolds the right of people with intellectual disabilities to be included in meaningful ways in society. It develops inclusive education and employment initiatives which challenge deficit-focused perceptions of people with intellectual disability, provide university-based co-learning opportunities for students with and without intellectual disability, and support progression towards employment.
Drawing on international best practice in inclusive education for people with intellectual disability, the project will develop academic outputs including inclusive education modules, training in inclusive pedagogy and assessment, ‘expert by experience’ training resources, and internship/employment transition models, all of which are replicable and scalable across the HEI sector.
Reporting to the Head of School of Education the Academic Development Lead will have responsibility for developing curricula and designing learning and teaching resources that reflect the principles of inclusive education and are underpinned by a rights-based approach to the provision of educational and employment opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities.
The post holder will also be responsible for developing training initiatives to develop academic staff's capacity in the sphere of inclusive pedagogies and assessment.
