DTU’s ambition is to have the best engineering education in Europe. 

Henceforward, a research field will be established within DTU Learning Lab. The focus of the Learning Lab research team will be student learning; how do engineering students behave and learn, and how can teachers and supervisors support and scaffold student learning to maximize student learning outcome? Based upon existing knowledge as well as new research projects to be done, DTU Learning Lab will build a cutting-edge state of the art knowledgebase of student behaviour, motivation, and learning STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in university. 

DTU Learning Lab is responsible for pedagogical and didactical training of DTU’s staff. This includes courses, workshops, presentations, and the overall teacher-training program for all new faculties to become competent teachers and educational developers. 

For an Associated Professor or DTU Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Engineering Didactics, we seek candidates with documented knowledge, skills, and competences in the following areas: 

  • Theories of teaching and learning in higher education, preferably with teaching and learning STEM in universities
  • Theories of motivation and didactical design of courses, lab exercises, projects, internships
  • Theories of grounding and transfer of knowledge, skills, and competences from one setting to other complex settings
  • Theories of and experience with teaching and learning with technology
  • Experience with both qualitative and quantitative empirical research within the field of student learning in universities – preferably the motivation, behaviour, and learning of engineering students 

We seek candidates with a high potential for creative and independent research, willingness to collaborate and interact with other researchers, the ability to develop study programmes, teacher training, and scaffold student learning to strengthen learning outcome.

Responsibilities and qualifications

You will be expected to establish a vivid research group in the field of engineering didactics in close collaboration with didactical consultants in DTU Learning Lab and active faculty of other departments within DTU. We expect you to actively seek research funding and also contribute to the training of DTU’s educators. 

The key responsibilities of the position are: 

  • Conducting excellent research in one or more of the above-mentioned research areas and publishing articles in international high-ranked journals
  • Collaboration externally with international academia, internally within the university, and with public authorities
  • Attracting external funding to the field of research
  • Providing scientific advice to e.g., management, teachers, heads of studies, study counsellors at DTU on development of teaching, study environments, and study programmes
  • Teaching and supervising. Preferably, you are experienced with teaching and developing of teacher-training programmes – and will be able to contribute to the DTU teacher-training programme and to supervision DTU’s academic staff with respect to both teaching and doing empirical Scholarship of Teaching and Learning-research in student motivation, behaviour, and learning.
