This is an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow to join an AHRC funded project entitled: Delivering Heritage: a place-based creative scanning approach to investigating post office cultures in India and the UK.
You will be working with Dr Rowan Bailey (Reader in Cultural Theory and Practice), Professor Nic Clear (Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities) and academics from the University of Sonipat (India). The UK team is located in the Centre for Cultural Ecologies in Art, Design and Architecture in the School of Arts and Humanities at the University of Huddersfield.
As a knowledge and cultural exchange project between India and the UK, the research seeks to better understand the heritages of post offices in India and the UK through collaborative interdisciplinary working. The use of scanning technologies will document/archive and conserve the past as well as imagine the future use of post office buildings in the present. The project will involve co-creative processes of skills sharing, community participation, education and learning between academics, students, external partners and communities.
The School of Arts and Humanities offers a progressive approach to art, design, architecture, music, humanities, media and filmmaking in an environment of teaching and research excellence. The School is driven by collaboration and partnership working in the arts and humanities.
You will contribute to the development of this project as a Research Fellow and play a key role in the design, administration and delivery of activities related to the following:
- Knowledge and cultural exchange of scanning practices;
- Heritage conservation and the future use of post-office heritage buildings/settings in India;
- Colonial/de-/postcolonial visual and material cultures related to post-office contexts in India and the UK;
- Scanning/architectural visualisations (their technical, commercial and artistic applications) for heritage industry and curatorial outcomes;
- Creative community/public engagement and evaluation tools to gather stories of experience.
You will have a doctoral qualification with a specialism or interest in one or more of the following areas:
- Heritage conservation and future use of heritage buildings/settings;
- Culture/history/politics of India (in particular, postcolonial visual and material cultures);
- Scanning/architectural visualisations (technical/commercial and/or artistic applications).
With good organisation, project management, and communication skills, you will evidence a proven track record of working collaboratively in research contexts with multiple partners and communities and be able to interpret, evaluate and critique existing literature.
