The role

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for a new postdoctoral Research Associate or a more experienced postdoctoral Senior Research Associate or Research Fellow to contribute to or lead the development and evaluation of novel energy modelling, advanced energy analysis and optimisation techniques as part of the collaborative research project SUPERIOT (Truly Sustainable Printed Electronics-based IoT Combining Optical and Radio Wireless Technologies), funded by the EU Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme under Grant Agreement No. 101096021. What will you be doing?

  • You will conduct in-depth research into energy modelling, analysis and optimisation techniques for IoT nodes and networks, provide input into their design to make them more resource transparent and efficient.
  • You will lead the construction of energy models, evaluate energy models on benchmarks and use cases, and lead the development and evaluation of energy consumption analysis and optimization techniques, addressing a variety of hardware platforms and use cases as available in the SUPERIOT project.
  • You will take a leading role in the evaluation of the research outcomes and the dissemination of the research results from the SUPERIOT project in collaboration with the project partners 

You should apply if

  • You hold, or expect to hold, a PhD in either Computer Systems Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Embedded Systems or Microelectronics, or in a closely related field. Alternatively, you have a first degree in one of the above-mentioned subjects and at least three years experience in a research role in industry.
  • You are able and confident to undertake hands-on work with embedded software and hardware, running applications and benchmarks for evaluation.
  • You have excellent research, programming, modelling and analysis skills (e.g. Python, C, C++, statistical methods).
  • You are comfortable working across the layers in the system stack ranging from hardware to application software.
  • You can write up results from research activity and present these to diverse international audiences through conferences, industry interactions and public engagement.
  • You have a track record of academic paper authorship, or patents if from an industrial background, appropriate to your stage of career, including publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
  • You are able to work in an international multi-disciplinary team and available to travel within the UK and abroad, e.g. to project meetings, dissemination events etc.
  • You can organise your time to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.
