University of Lincoln - Selborne

Location: Dartmouth, Devon
Salary: £37,999 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 20th December 2024
Closes: 15th January 2025
Job Ref: SL023

Please note, this post is permanent and full-time at 1 FTE.

The University of Lincoln is the Higher Education partner in the Team Fisher consortium which is tasked with delivering and modernising Royal Navy training and education through Project Selborne. A key part of the University’s role is to deliver education in core academic disciplines, both arts and science, to Royal Navy officers undergoing training at Britannia Royal Naval College (BRNC). These subjects are delivered within the professional pathway for Royal Navy officers and, in many cases, lead to the award of Level 5 and Level 6 degree qualifications.

As a Lecturer in Sensors and Technology, you will be based at BRNC Dartmouth as part of the Maritime Studies Centre staff in a teaching, scholarly and professional practice (TSPP) position. Your primary role will be teaching on sensors, communications and new technology in the maritime environment, both theory and practice, as well as Satellite Science. We are looking for a motivated, innovative and collaborative expert who is able to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team. You will be knowledgeable and able, in particular, to emphasise the real world application of the subject in a naval context. The role will include a number of key enabling aspects including Personal Tutoring, academic outreach activities, marking and assessment and Continuous Professional Development including research outputs and pedagogical innovation.

We are seeking to appoint a teaching and student focused Lecturer who has sound communication skills and is looking to grow their professional expertise and advance their career. The post is ideal for those looking to develop their professional experience in a supportive professional environment. You should have some experience of teaching in further or higher education and demonstrate clear potential to enhance your experience and/or research with mentoring support. With Team Fisher entering a period of modernisation, an open-minded and innovative approach is important as is the willingness to work across disciplines, whether within Science or with the Humanities. You will have a minimum of a relevant Honours Degree in a related discipline, combined with practical experience or vocational qualifications. For applicants who do not have a relevant Master’s Degree, PhD or HEA qualification, including achieving Higher Education Association (HEA) status, there will be opportunity to achieve these whilst in post.

Please be aware that an offer for this position is conditional on the ability to obtain a BPSS background check, followed by a successful application for a UK national security clearance. Further information on the checks and process involved in both are available at Government baseline personnel security standard - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) and https://www.gov.uk/guidance/united-kingdom-security-vetting-applicant respectively.

Please note that this post requires a Standard DBS check.
