About the Job

Interview Date: Friday 25 October 2024

The Faculty of Business and Law wishes to appoint a suitable candidate as a Lecturer in Law. This permanent post will principally involve teaching core areas of the law curriculum such as criminal and/or civil law, as well as socio-legal modules, skills and/or business law-related modules. While delivery will initially be at levels 4 and 5, the successful candidate may also teach at levels 6 and 7.

You will also contribute to other activities in support of the student experience, including personal academic tutoring.

Reflecting our signature ‘active blended learning’ pedagogy, you can expect to deliver learning and teaching with small groups of learners (c.25). You will design and deliver interactive learning opportunities, applying a range of technologies to engage learners and support their success.

You will engage in self-directed scholarship to ensure that your learning and teaching reflects current thinking and practice.

We want you to be able to carry out your work in a way that best supports UON and our students, but also you as an individual. We understand this may vary between different areas of the university as well as from one person to another. With Smarter Working you can work with increased flexibility, if you would like to, which can facilitate greater freedom and autonomy.

This post may be considered on a full time or fractional basis.

About You

An undergraduate degree qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline is essential, whilst a Master’s, PhD and/or relevant professional experience are welcome. This post requires excellent communication and organisational skills, with an enthusiasm for learning and teaching, and the skills to share your expertise in innovative ways to engage and motivate learners.

Qualifications

Essential;

  • Degree qualification or equivalent in relevant subject.
  • Professional Recognition as HEA Fellow (D2) or teaching qualification recognised by HESA, or willingness to obtain within an agreed timescale.

Desirable;

  • Master’s degree in relevant subject.
  • Doctorate in relevant subject, completed or within 12 months of completion.
  • Relevant professional qualification.

Faculty/Department

The Law Subject Group delivers undergraduate programmes (the LLB 2 and 3 year programmes, and the BA Law with Criminology). Tutors are also involved in doctoral supervision, and we are currently validating an LLM in Law and Social Justice to start delivery in September 2025. Law tutors also contribute to delivery on other undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across the University and support partnership work.

In addition to teaching and other Faculty and University-related roles, Law tutors are actively involved in research across a board range of areas with national and international impact. We also work with the local legal community and 3rd sector organisations, both to provide opportunities for our students and graduates and to support the wider community.

You will be joining an active and growing subject group, making an important contribution to the Faculty, University and community.

Right to Work

All candidates will be required to provide proof of their eligibility to work in the UK during the interview process. The University is open to considering Skilled Worker visa sponsorship, provided that the eligibility criteria of the points-based immigration system are met.
