The Opportunity:

This is an excellent opportunity for an innovative academic to join the School of Law as a Lecturer in Global Law. You should have an established teaching and research profile as well as a proven commitment to promoting the student experience.  You will contribute to developing and delivering new learning teaching and assessment (including dissertation supervision) in Global Law and cognate fields. You will also provide a focal point to promote the Law School as a centre of excellence for teaching and research in Global Law.

You will play a full part in the collegiate life of the Edinburgh Law School and will be expected to develop and execute an ambitious and impactful research agenda, which takes a global and pluralist legal perspective on your specialism or legal sub-discipline, and which leads to the publication of internationally-excellent publications in line with the School REF strategy.

The School of Law strives to be a diverse and inclusive community.  We particularly welcome applications from candidates belonging to groups that have been traditionally under-represented in the subject.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week).  We are open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • A strong academic profile that takes a global and pluralist legal perspective on their own specialism, with a PhD or equivalent professional or other experience.
  • Ability to design and deliver research-led teaching at all levels of the curriculum.
  • Ability to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students in their dissertation work.
  • Ability to develop an innovative research profile and research plan in the area(s) of expertise, including through high-quality publications.
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to engage students both on-campus and in online settings.
