Background

The Violence and Society (VAS) Centre is a dynamic and growing interdisciplinary research centre at City St Georges. Our research is about violence and abuse, evidencing harms and supporting ways to reduce violence and resulting health inequalities. Our main funding is a 5-year UKRI Consortium grant, Violence, Health and Society Consortium (VISION) comprises ten universities, 30 researchers and multiple external partnerships.

Responsibilities

This post is to contribute to an aspect of VISION work focused on global sources of evidence to understand violence reduction in settings around the world where there has been major conflict or war. This project is about identifying evidence on effective interventions to reduce violence and the impact of violence once an overt conflict/war has stopped, or an accord has been reached between opposing forces.

The objective is a scoping review of the relevant literature spanning disciplines including international politics, public health, and clinical trauma research. This will involve reviewing relevant literature including peer-reviewed journal articles, books, and grey literature, with the goal of identifying effective interventions and evidence gaps that can inform future research.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will be studying for a relevant degree (psychology, criminology, sociology, law, health or other) and have knowledge of research on violence.

They will have demonstrable research experience in ethnicity, migration, trauma or a related area, and will have knowledge of scoping review methodologies and experience of conducting a scoping review. They will have the ability to synthesise and analyse large amounts of information quickly and communicate this effectively in writing.
