Position Overview

Discipline: Business and Project Management

Location: London, Devon House (St Katharine Docks).

Term: A range of fractions up to 1.0FTE may be available. 6-12 months, fixed term. At least 2 days per week required for teaching availability (in person).

Reports to: Assigned line manager within the Faculty of Social Sciences

The role

Northeastern University London wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Management Information Systems (teaching only). The appointee will contribute to the teaching activities of Northeastern University London in this area.

We wish to appoint a specialist in Management Information Systems. Preference may be given to candidates with active interests in the relationship of Business to one or more of the following areas: fintech and AI; sustainability and responsible management; employment contexts. Teaching competency in Management Information Systems to at least Level 5 is desirable (2nd year undergraduate).

Core duties will include teaching on a range of courses. The teaching should be interactive and engaging, rather than traditional lecturing. In addition, the appointee will mark  assessments, hold office hours, and prepare and maintain relevant course Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) sites in accordance with University policies and student needs. Attendance at regular team and faculty meetings is desirable where possible. The role requires availability for teaching on at least two separate days of the week, and may be more depending on contract fraction.

All teaching in this subject area takes place on campus in central London. This role is not suitable for those wishing to teach remotely/online or in a hybrid manner.

Discipline/ Faculty

The appointee will work in a multidisciplinary team within the Faculty of Social Sciences, as part of the rapidly growing Business and Project Management team, with potential contributions to programmes such as BSc Business, MSc Global Investment Banking, and MSc Project Management. In the 2024/25 academic year, the Business and Project Management team will comprise approximately 15 academic staff, working in a range of fields, including international business, marketing, accounting, responsible investing, organisational behaviour, and various areas of project management.

The Faculty of Social Sciences will have approximately 60 academic staff, including academics in Economics, Politics and International Relations, Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, Design & Communication Studies.

Person Specification Criteria

Qualifications

  • Masters, or equivalent professional experience, in a relevant area.
  • A teaching qualification (FHEA or equivalent).

Key Criteria

  • Demonstrates, through evidence, excellent ability so as to be adaptable, innovative, and inclusive in the role as advertised with regards to teaching and service.
  • Teaching competency in Management Information Systems to Level 5.
  • Flexibility and capacity to teach across a wide range of courses, where appropriate in collaboration with specialists from other disciplines including Computer Science, Business, Mathematics, and/or Academic Writing.
  • Ability to develop excellent educational provision in areas with significant appeal to students, including at postgraduate level.
  • Willingness and capacity to undertake continuous professional development in relation to the use of technology, software, and data in relation to Finance & Accounting, and to teach on these matters.
  • Willingness and capacity to exercise appropriate leadership in the development of Finance & Accounting, and to do so through collaboration with a range of disciplines.
